From the point at which the mighty River Seine rises, not far from the Dijon-Paris four-track main line at Salmaise, to Le Harve where it spills into the English Channel, 482 miles away, the waterway acts as a magnet for railways of all kinds. The greatest attraction of all is the capital, Paris, and every crossing point of the river as it flows through the city is included.

From the trains of the humble Metro, including a vintage preserved set crossing the river in front of the Eiffel Tower, to international trains heading for far-flung destinations - we have them all. There’s steam as well on a run out of Montparnasse with SNCF’s 230G in action. There are double deck trains of the RER and push-pull services to all sorts of destinations. Turbo trains, diesel hauled Intercity services running under electric wires, railcars on rural lines, TGVs of both varieties, postal trains and freights behind various machines, some well over thirty years old.

For followers of French railways or Francophiles in general, with full commentary by Greville Socket, this program is an indispensable addition to any collection.
