The rapid development of efficient monoplane aircraft in the 1930's paved the way for the savage air warfare of World War II. Air Front: The Early Years ‘39-’42 tells the story of the battles fought over the Blitzkrieg battlefields of Poland and western Europe, followed by the German air front over England during the Battle of Britain and the Night Blitz.

In 1941, a new Air Front was opened over southern Europe including Albania, Greece and Crete. This was followed by the German invasion of Russia during Operation Barbarossa and the air campaign over the Mediterranean. It wasn’t until the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, and America’s entry into the war, that the balance of air power over Europe was to dramatically change.
