As World War Two finally came to an end, a new danger emerged from the west as the Soviet Union looked to invade its former allies. To create an effective nuclear deterrent, Britain began developing an aircraft capable of delivering the weapons of mass destruction whose very existence would hopefully prevent another World War. This aircraft would be the Vulcan Mk I, a jet-powered delta wing strategic bomber, which would initially carry Britain’s very first nuclear weapon, the Blue Danube gravity bomb.

Using archive footage, this DVD looks at the design, development and production of what would become an iconic bomber. From early conception to test flights, we examine how this instantly recognisable plane went from the drawing board to service in the RAF from 1956.
